My work has primarily been focused on the representation and objectification of women in ‘lads mags’. The images of women shown in these magazines, generally all fit the same manufactured, stereotypical mould of the ‘sexy ideal’. These images are void of the variety of women that exist in society and a negative message is portrayed, where you have to look like these ‘photo-shopped’ images in order to be appealing to the opposite sex.

Along with the pictures of these women, the demeaning written content that is found in these magazines result in women being turned into pure objects. This objectification has consequently caused images of topless women to be treated as a commodity.

Through mainly collage and paint, I have explored the comparisons between the glossy, ‘photo-shopped’ and blemish-free images with the natural and untouched pictures of myself.
