My work is based on the creation of aesthetically composed images, where colour, pattern, shape, and form are of great importance. These images are created on paper and board, using paint, paper collage, cloth, charcoal and pastels. I am currently developing these flat images into sculptural pieces by creating structures on the surface with cardboard and wood, to incorporate self-made and found objects. I am exploring different techniques to make my own forms; materials include plaster, latex, papier-mâché, clay, resin and fibreglass. My work also includes text, both hand written and within paper collage, to investigate the relationship with the viewer. Within these images I am developing printing techniques to create my own images and printed text. Ideas surrounding the domestic scene have become dominant within my work, particularly through my choice of paper collage and objects. These objects include pots, cups, jars, bottles and abstract forms that are suggestive of ornaments. The inclusion of shelving and my decision to expand images so they continue around the corners of the wall furthers this domestic feel. Within this my work explores the threshold between humour and seriousness.
