‘La plus grand chef-d’oeuvre littéraire n’est qu’un alphabet en désordre.’
The greatest master-piece of literature is nothing but a disordered alphabet.
- Jean Cocteau
I am interested in using systems to recode the logical orders by which we communicate, specifically focusing on language structures and the dialectic of binary opposites.
I want to explore how we might access, through art, the possibility of an indeterminable space between oppositions; between inside and outside, sense and non-sense, conscious and subconscious.
The systems developed are obsessive and repetitive. When the process is repeated the act becomes automatic and monotonous; the outcome becomes emphatic and ridiculous. The restructured texts are legible and illegible, disordered and ordered, creating a new relationship between text and reader.
